Epilepsy in Lowe Syndrome
Approximately 50% of affected boys have seizure disorders, usually starting before the age of six years old. Younger children may have febrile convulsions (caused by fever). In older individuals with Lowe syndrome, convulsions are usually not related to fever.
Individuals who have seizures will have an EEG to detect the location of the abnormal brain activity to help with diagnosis and treatment. Seizures often respond well to antiepileptic/anticonvulsant medications.
The presence of epilepsy can cause sleep issues.
